Mental and oral starters for Year 4 Spring Teaching Sequence 9.

Use place value and known doubles to double any two-digit number and find corresponding halves. Use place value and multiplication facts to multiply multiples of ten by single-digit numbers. Use partitioning to begin to multiply two-digit numbers by single-digit numbers, using well-known multiplication facts and place value, e.g. 24 × 3. Understand place value of four-digit numbers. Add/subtract near multiples of 10/100. Consolidate doubling two-digit numbers and the use of a near doubling strategy. To multiply multiples of ten by single-digit numbers.
