I have the same issues with sheet as outlined below by other commenters. However it is a GREAT starting point for the work I'll be doing with my year 9s today and am really thankful that you uploaded it.

I love the imagery and overall look of the worksheet (GREAT LAYOUT well thought out and clear) Thank you Ben for contributing. I'm a bit confused as to the use of the terminology "not mutually exclusive" in the Star questions? I think that it that must be a typo. It was probably meant to be "independent". When something is mutually exclusive or not mutually exclusive this is usually based on the outcomes of 1 connected event. E.g a coin toss (1 event 2 outcomes), a die throw (1 event 6 outcomes), rain on a certain day (1 event 2 outcomes) etc. It should be such that if 1 outcome occurs it EXCLUDES (prevents) the other outcomes from occurring. The mutual exclusivity factor helps in working out the probabilities and understanding the scenario. Event 1=Bag 1 choices Event 2=Bag 2 choices (Bag 1 and Bag 2 are not related/connected, so of course they are not mutually exclusive but the fact that they are not related/connected means they are INDEPENDENT). If the events are Independent then they are not mutually exclusive right? This not always as you probably found out when the pupils come up with scenarios (which blur the lines of what is mutually exclusive and what is independent *sigh*). You could have two events which are not mutually exclusive but this is not the reason WHY you are multiplying the probabilities. You are multiplying because the events are Independent (if they are dependent then you have to adjust the probability of the second event to reflect the effect of the first event, but you CAN STILL multiply). OK that was really wordy, I hope I have made it clear if not, (the probability is high that I have really made my explanation really confusing) then oops! PLEASE FEEL FREE TO CORRECT ME (if I am wrong), I love to learn so I can teach better.
