A worksheet to print out. Students are asked to assign a number to each letter of the alphabet, and then solve some addition and subtraction problems. Then, in the manner of a code, use the answers to find the 'Mystery Word'.
Recalculating the sheet (pressing the 'F9' key) will create a new worksheet with a different solution.

Used for y4/5 as starter. Then made up their own using larger numbers.
I am a secondary school teacher but this is an excellent through the door activity for my year 7s and low ability year 8s.
