This is one of the clearest analyses of the current educational situation around ICT that I have come across. It should be compulsory reading for all SLT. Read it, then pass it on to your colleagues. The sooner we stop SLT thinking that ICT can be taught by anyone with basic digital literacy, the better. Then they (and the rest of the teaching profession) will realise just how few qualified ICT teachers there are and how important it is to get decent CPD going. I hope the government takes notice too, because the whole teacher training thing needs shaking up. All qualified teachers should be digitally literate in order to teach their own subjects. All ICT courses should include much more subject material, to ensure that nqt's can teach computer science, not just Office!
