Overall rating 4 out of 54 (5 ratings)

Last updated 06 January 2013, created 19 December 2011, viewed 2,002

Five activities give pupils the opportunity to learn some new year words, learn about some new year traditions in Germany and think about new year resolutions. They are also encouraged to write/speak about new year traditions in Britain. The phrase "einen guten Rutsch" is explained, too. Frohes neues Jahr und einen guten Rutsch!

Thankyou, got me thinking more on past / future contrast - can we use "der Entschluss" for New Years Resolutions too ?

This looks like a really interesting and more to the point genuine cultural input - something our textbooks don't cover at all, and I'm sure I would be able to use some of it, e.g. firework displays, items to bring good luck, listening to the Wiener Symphoniker etc.. However, as a PGDE student, I'm not sure what my mentor would make of me talking about people having "morning after" breakfasts because they'd over-indulged the night before, or asking a 13 year old if s/he was going to stop smoking this year, as "Vorsatz" for 2012.

I love this resource - particularly the sentence level vocabulary (no.2) and the gute Vorsätze (3 & 4). Great! Thank you for sharing.
