An investigation looks at the properties of plastic, metals and cardboard to devise a method for their separation from mixed wast More…e. Looks at floating and sinking, magnetic or not and strength. A literacy activity can be used to describe the life of a recycled aluminium can. Curriculum links Science: science investigations, materials and their properties. Literacy: extended writing Geography: as an introduction activity leading into environmental change and sustainable development Resources Each group will require access to: Bowl of water ‘Mixed waste’ consisting of a plastic container (choose one that floats), an aluminium drinks can, a food can, a piece of thin cardboard. Magnet Lesson structure 1. 5 minutes

Creative science. Great activity and am planning to use it during our ofsted inspection - a colleague of mine used this last time and got an 'outstanding' grade for her lesson!
