This resource will teach pupils how to read and say the different pronunciations of the letter string "ough". Most of the time we teach pupils to pronounce words using rules and then tell them about exceptions. In this case most of the pronunciations of "ough" are exceptions More…or isolates. There are five whole class activities for the whiteboard. National curriculum links: 1.3, 2.3, 3.2 Teachers can assess pupils by listening to them read a section of the story in activity 1.
