Substitution Game

Students are given a set of cards in pairs or small groups and split them equally between them. They then play ‘Top Trumps’ by subsituting into the expressions. Differentiation can be achieved easily by changing the values to negatives, decimals etc

Year 7 students really got into this game after learning substitution. We only played for 15 minutes but could definitely be used again or for longer. I guess there are a few different ways of playing, but work out what suits your class best. Thank you!

I've used these with classes from Year 6 to 8 and they all love them and beg to play them whenever they finish work early! A great resource.

I have used this with both my year 7 groups. They all loved it. A great way for them to practice substitution and they were all very keen to check each others answers to make sure the correct person got the cards. Fantastic, thanks

Absolutely brilliant resource. My year 7's and other staff are asking for it daily! Great practise and even the weaker students can play without assistance! Well done and thanks for sharing.

LOVE these!!!!. Tried the lower ability ones with my Year 7s and they loved them!!! All the pupils knew how to play the game so it didn't need explaining, and the class are looking forward to playing it again tomorrow!!
