Last updated 03 March 2013, created 17 November 2010, viewed 1,030

A Year 6 class from St. Mary's RC Primary School, Ipswich, visits the Imperial War Museum at Duxford, in ‘Worth the Trip’.

A former RAF fighter station, Duxford now houses Europe's premier museum of aircraft and aviation history. But the class is not there for th More…e historic aircraft, but to study the buildings that contain them, learning how designing an aircraft hangar presents unusual architectural challenges. Pupils then build scale models back at school.

Architect and broadcaster Maxwell Hutchinson adds his thoughts on the importance of structure in architecture.
