In ‘Great Lesson Ideas’, staff at Eleanor Palmer School in north London have created some absorbing activities to engage their primary pupils with maths and share three of their best ideas.

Year 5 create factor bugs to help them understand factors, prime and square numbers and Year 3 discover that there are some interesting patterns and relationships when writing down different times tables.

Year 5 use a counting stick to help them improve their multiplication skills. It’s a simple but effective tool which helps embed numerical understanding.

I cant wait to try the clock times tables. This is a great visual resource that will hook children into wanting to find out more. Just what I was looking for... thank you

Really good idea and easy for the children to use factors in pairs. Also deals well with factors of prime numbers and square numbers

I like the ideas especially the last digit investigation. Would be helpful to have the clock faces included with the lesson description- just saves time!
