How staff working with profoundly disabled pupils encourage the independence of their pupils, in ‘Special Schools’.

The Stephen Hawking Special School in Tower Hamlets, teaches 70 of the most profoundly disabled children in the country. This video looks at how the princi More…ple of giving each child as much independence as possible runs through the whole school. Staff and management discuss and demonstrate how each child is given an independence target. This may range from being able to move around the school independently, to being able to eat and drink without outside assistance.
