This is nothing innovative but I have found that it is starting to fix a knowledge gap in my students.
The document contains all the key terms that Edexcel have advised that students should know as part of the new course, in theory learning them should ensure 'free' marks as little application is More… needed. My students haven't until now really got their head around definitions. The terms that are written into the document at pesent are the ones they have learnt, the idea is that throughout the rest of the course they will fill in the blanks and the teacher will add the 'new' word to the word bank.
At the start of every lesson either as the starter activity, or in addition to the teacher has two pots with (in my case lollipop sticks). Pot 1 has all names of students and pot 2 with the name of all words already covered which pupils should be able to 'recall'.
At the start of the lesson pick at random a child from pot 1, and a term from pot 2 - test if they can recall...if they do their name stick stays out of the pot as well as the term, if they struggle select another pupil from pot 1 to help. if they have needed support their name returns. By the end of the recall three terms have been revisited. I do this every lesson and it's starting to really work - pupils understand that they need to know these and the random nature of the task keeps them onside.
