An alternative to a heart dissection.
I put together this worksheet for my sixth form because one or two didn't want to do the heart.
We use iPads, so there is reference to taking photos and putting into ibooks, but it might help with ideas.
I planted the broad bean seeds during the easter holiday and I was able to use them for this practical 24 days later, when they were a suitable size.
The stain used for the TS Stem and Root, Toluidine, is the same as AQA recommends for the Mitosis practical.
Stand the plant in the Eosin for about 2 hours before the practical, although if you leave it overnight as I say on the worksheet, it works very well, but isn't essential.
Pupils were able to cut quite thin sections of Stem and Root successfully using basic apparatus.

Thanks - a very useful starting point for my AS students who did not want to do the heart dissection.
