Excellent code breaking challenge which can be spread over 2-4 lessons. Students are introduced with a story about a murder at their school, but all of the clues sent by their teacher have been coded. Powerpoint takes them through the history and detail of each type of cipher for which they complete practise examples on the accompanying sheet. Finally students are given 5 coded clues in a booklet which they solve to find out who committed the murder.
This resource took me over 20 hours to put together and has been tested with classes and subsequently improved. It can all be modified for your own school and would make an excellent extra curricular activity or special event. There are lots of extension activities too.
