Fractions - Functional Skills Maths - Entry Level 2

This resource has been designed for students working towards Functional Skills Maths qualifications at Entry Level 2 (Edexcel-Pearson, NCFE, City and Guilds, NOCN and Open Awards). It contains an age-appropriate, 120-slide PowerPoint lesson and a 35-page workbook on fractions - Outcome 10: Recognise simple fractions (halves, quarters and tenths) of whole numbers and shapes.

PowerPoint Lesson

The PowerPoint will help pupil to achieve the following outcomes:

to recognise 1/2 (half) of whole numbers and shapes
to recognise 1/4 (one quarter) of whole numbers and shapes
to recognise 1/10 (one tenth) of whole numbers and shapes
to apply knowledge of these fractions to solve real-life problems.

Many opportunities are provided within the PowerPoint for pupils to develop their knowledge and understanding of fractions and to apply this knowldege to solving real-life word problems. It also contains links to two videos on fractions and examination questions on fractions. It is ideal to introduce the fraction component of the Entry Level 2 specification and for revision purposes.

Workbook

The 35-page workbook contains five information/explanation pages, twenty-two worksheets, two progress checks, a certificate of achievement and answers. Tasks and activities have been designed to help pupils to achieve the outcomes outlined above.

The resource is available in both a PDF and an editable version to enable teachers to personalise the resource if desired. It can be used for classwork, homework, revision or as an independent learning pack.
