Humpback Whale Non-Chronological Report Pack

A pack of twelve non-chronological report resources, including vocabulary, features, planning and writing sheets and activities, themed around humpback whales.

Humpback Whales Vocabulary
Vocabulary about humpback whales. This resource can be used in two ways to familiarise pupils with the subject specific vocabulary: 1) cut out and match the words, definitions and images; 2) use as a word mat during the planning and writing process.

Display the key words and matching images around the classroom with this resource.

Identify Features: Tense and Sentence Types
Pupils identify different sentence types and tenses from an example introduction and Did you know? section from a non-chronological report about giant pandas. With answers.

Humpback Whales Matching Sentences
Match the beginning and ends of sentences about whales. This activity makes pupils familiar with the sentence structure of a non-chronological report and facts associated with whales. They then order the sentences, identify the relative clauses and finally write about humpback whales. With answers.

Re-Order Sentences Elephants
Organise the sentences about elephants into the appropriate section. Then order the sentences to make a paragraph. With answers.

Humpback Whales Organising Information Into Paragraphs
Three paragraphing activities: firstly, identify which section each fact about whales belongs in; secondly, write a paragraph using the facts provided; lastly, draw a diagram using information provided. With answers.

Humpback Whales Notes to Plan
Pupils organise notes about whales and into a planning grid. The answers are provided. A larger planning grid is also provided to add additional notes from pupils’ own research.
