This activity is designed to develop reasoning skills and in this case gauge/assess level of understanding or ability to use the OS key - if you need or choose to give your pupils this.
Pupils write their choice of Odd one out from the 4 symbols. Underneath they write why they chose it.
The point in 'ODD ONE OUT' as a thinking skills activity is that the answer may vary. Having said that, with Map Symbols in particular there can perhaps be a more obvious 'right' answer.

great intro for my mixed 3/4 kids who have just started to look at maps and need to focus their attention on the key
