This is a collection of 22 lessons based on using the new specification Paper 1 skills.
We have chosen to use Of Mice and Men as the fiction text, as an introduction to the skills of the paper. Each question (1-4) is used as a focus for 1-2 weeks, and there are ways of assessing the skills used in questions 1-4 on the Powerpoints.
Although we have not used a 19th Century English text for this unit, we have found that the lessons have enabled the students to learn the skills needed for the exam, whilst using a text which they enjoy reading. It is notable that we have skipped parts of the text when reading, so that students focus more on analysing an extract, which they will need to do in the exam. We have also avoided too much contextual information, so that students understand that they will not need to know themes/context for this book in the exam.
