This pyramid of need framework helps schools consider what data might be used to assess the needs of children and to think through the extent of their support needs. It can be a useful tool for integrating different levels of support across the school for children and families.

As a parent of two adopted children who had unmet mental health needs whilst in education, the pyramid of needs framework looks like an excellent tool that, as well as those groups listed, could identify and support the needs of adopted children too. Please add adopted children to your example list. They are too often overlooked because it is felt they are settled with a loving, family. The reality is that the impact of their trauma, and the losses they have had, live on to a point, as in my daughter's case, where it can be life-threatening because they feel so misunderstood.
