This RE SMART and PowerPoint is a series of six lessons and all resources based on planning for the unit “What is Humanism” This unit is aimed at Year 6 looking at the big question What is it like to be a Humanist in Britain Today?

Each lesson starts with a sticky knowledge retrieval quiz and vocabulary activity.
Activities include group text analysis; a look at what is important to Humanists; discussion on Humanist beliefs; study of what it means to be an atheist, agnostic and humanist; table question activity; glossary task; quote annotation; research into four key female Humanists (Florence Dixie, George Eliot/Mary Ann Evans, Rosalind Franklin and Lorraine Hansberry); mindmap of Humanist values; bus slogan activity; Humanist quotes on spirituality exercise; Humanists and spirituality writing task; quote matching activity; and a What is it like to be a Humanist in Britain Today? mindmap.

Lessons include videos, group/partner discussion, group tasks, individual tasks and making links to children’s own lives. All resources are included, and there is a printing requirement list for the whole unit. Please note, the SMART and PowerPoint contain the same content but the SMART is only compatible with Notebook software.
