These lessons are designed to take two hours, instructing students how to use the statistical software package SPSS, including interpreting a test statistic using critical value tables. The teacher is expected to be able to explain alongside the presentation. Each lesson contains an illustrated explanation of how to complete the tasks, followed by a question for the students to complete- and subsequent illustrated solution.

There are step-by-step instructions for performing the following using SPSS, including screenshots.

  1. How to produce Pie charts, scattergraphs (data entry)
  2. Bar charts and histograms (some ‘interesting’ histogram problems)
  3. Chi-square test of association and goodness of fit

I have usually split the Chi-squared lesson into two, with some revision of previous skills.

I can provide support for this resource and would act on any constructive feedback. I can also provide an example assessment and suggested mark scheme and solutions if there is any interest out there.

In the zip file I have included all three/four lessons (PowerPoint presentations) and the SPSS files which I created to complete the questions.
