It isn't correct to say that there is less light hitting because it is further away this is a misconception. the light is more spread out when it hits at an angle.

That statement is correct - as the Sun releases rays of light they decreases in intensity according to the inverse square law. I.e. taking a step back from a heat source will make you feel colder as the heat rays spread out in every direction. I do however get your point and will update the phrasing on the powerpoint to reflect the areas being in direct sunlight, instead of being further / closer - apologies on my behalf for this.
