A series of four lessons exploring Who’s for the Game? By Jessie Pope. This was originally used with a mixed ability Year 9 classes as part of a wider unit on World War One poetry; however, it could be adapted for age and stage.

The lessons cover:
Lesson 1 – recap of persuasive techniques, the context of the poem and student’s initial response to the poem
Lesson 2 – analysis of the poem (the PowerPoint includes a guided annotation of the poem; however, there are also task cards included in the poem for a more independent analysis)
Lesson 3 – A poetry writing lesson where students write a response to Pope’s poem and peer assessment
Lesson 4 – A D.I.R.T. lesson**

Included in the download is:
• A PowerPoint covering all lessons and homework tasks
• A copy of the poem
• A D.I.R.T. reflection worksheet
• Poetry analysis task cards
