Celebrating Differences Assembly!

(0)
This fun and original assembly aims to assist children in celebrating the differences between themselves and others, through: -Understanding how diversity is needed in the world; -Recognising and valuing the differences in their own school; -Considering how kind words can help us to unite together. I love leading this assembly, because I feel that the key message within it is so vital, especially in the present climate. More importantly, wherever I have presented this (to a wide-range of students from a wide-range of contexts) it has always gone down extremely well, with students being extremely engaged and informing me of the different ways in which they have celebrated differences in the months that follow! The slides are visually engaging and well-presented, and the subject matter is tailored to the interests and needs of young people. For example, there are references to Prince Harry, Emma Watson, and others in popular culture, to help engage the children in the idea that each individual has their own strengths, weaknesses, like and dislikes, no matter who they are or how successful they appear. There is also an exciting ‘toothpaste challenge’ included, which demonstrates the importance of ensuring that our words to others are kind and respectful. The challenge includes a hyperlink to a countdown clock. In addition to this, all other resources that you will need are provided in the pack. The slides are fairly self-explanatory, but I’ve included guidance notes to assist the speaker. Hope that you find this useful!

Space Assembly Script - EYFS/KS1

(1)
An editable script for a space-themed assembly for younger pupils. Features two songs for children to sing and 30 separate speaking parts (though these are easily combined should you have children who do not wish to speak). The basic premise of the assembly is that two children in the class want to go on holiday to space and so listen to some facts about the eight planets to help make their decision. They don’t want to stay on planet Earth because it’s too messy! In the end they realise that the other planets would not be great holiday destinations because they’re too hot/too cold/too rocky/too smelly! They choose to stay on planet Earth but realise that they have to help to look after it to keep it a nice place to live. We had great success with this assembly in Reception last year - the children (and parents) loved it - and it’s easily edited to make it work for other classes.

British Values - Mutual Respect and Tolerance

(0)
This assembly focuses on one of the British Values with regards to Mutual Respect and Tolerance. The first slide is a definition of respect “A regard for the feelings, wishes, or rights of others”. The next slide asks the students to compare and contrast the sports football and rugby with regards to the respect shown by both the players and spectators. This should spark debate about the respect and possible lack of respect shown in each. The following slides show footballers abusing referees and and then an article detailing how many referees are leaving football due to the abuse that they take. A short video of a rugby referee then follows this which demonstrates how rugby players generally show great respect for the referee as he tells off 30 men who were not following the rules without any of them questioning him in any way. The next two slides show a recent Manchester football derby where the police had to create a line to keep the fans away from each other. The next slide shows two rugby fans stood together at a game shouting on their teams. This is the hook into the theme of mutual respect because why does rugby seem to have a culture of respect whilst football does not? I then explain that when people show each other respect this makes for a happier experience for all people involved. I then ask the students how can we show respect for each other at our school and within our house to make it a nice place to be? I have broken this up into respecting yourself, respecting the environment and then others. Whilst talking about respecting others I then introduce the term mutual respect and explain why this is important. This leads into discussion about that fact that in Britian we live in a diverse nation made up of many different cultures, languages, races, and backgrounds and how we can learn from others. I then finish the assembly with a golden rule about mutual respect: Treat others as you want to be treated
