A Journey through Winter - Sensory Story for Special Needs/PMLD/ASD/SLD.
This is a dramatic interactive story. The emphasis is to create atmosphere and tension through the music and staff participation.
I have given clear guidelines on how to structure the session, including music recommendations and necessary stimuli and props required. The story is threaded together with simple poetry. There are plenty of opportunities for pupils to track, anticipate and display pleasure/displeasure.
What is included:
A PDF lesson plan

I am a Drama teacher with over 20 years experience teaching SEN including PMLD SLD MLD and ASD. Unlike many sensory stories I focus upon creating tension and atmosphere through light, shadows, music, sound effects and staff call and response.
I am new to posting resources on TES but please keep an eye out for more dramatic interactive stories.
A total of 50 comprehension worksheets (24 differentiated worksheets for 6 nursery rhymes and 36 differentiated comprehension worksheets for photos).
In the 36 photo worksheets:
12 for lower abilities- find, cut and stick from a choice of 4 answers.
12 for middle abilities- find, copy and extend. The start of sentences are modelled and lines are already in place to practise writing on the line.
12 for higher abilities- students should be encouraged to write full sentences independently. Lines are in place for practising writing on the line.
The 6 Nursery Rhymes are: The Grand Old Duke of York, Row Row Row your Boat, Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star, Humpty Dumpty, Itsy-bitsy Spider and Hey Diddle Diddle.
There are 6 storyboards for all students to order events from the rhyme, then 6 worksheets for lower abilities- choosing an answer from a choice of 3 and circle/point/say the correct answer.
6 worksheets for middle abilities- choosing a correct answer from a choice of 3, then copying the answer, practicing handwriting on the lines.
6 worksheets for higher abilities to practice their handwriting, writing in full sentences and using capital letters and full stops.
For extension work- ask students to create their own questions, illustrate a rhyme themselves, recite a rhyme or create and illustrate one of their own.
Sensory Story ‘A Journey Through Autumn.’ Incorporates song, rhyme and call and response. Excite learners with this musical and interactive sensory journey. This is a dramatic interactive story. The emphasis is to create atmosphere and tension through the music and staff participation.
I have given clear guidelines on how to structure the session, including music recommendations and necessary stimuli and props required. The story is threaded together using simple rhyme, culminating in a tension building poem where pupils will show excitement and anticipation.

This is a wonderful introductory lesson on students thinking about what makes them unique and wonderful. They use the Collage pictures to create a cubist -style collage and compose a Cinquain Poem that is highly scaffolded to then publish their work. The collage and poem can be pasted onto some coloured A3 paper or card and put on display in your classroom. A fantastic activity that creates truly unique representations of your student’s interests and qualities.
Any reviews would be appreciated.
