Y3 No Nonsense Spelling ppts - Full year (split into half terms)

(4)
This resource is a huge time saver! I produced these ppt’s to correlate with the No nonsense spelling framework. This worked successfully in Y3 as it meant I could literally open up the ppt each morning and I was good to go. All spellings on the no nonsense spelling programme have been spread out across the yearly ppts (split into 6 half terms) to ensure coverage. Again, this is to be used alongside the No Nonsense Spelling programme.

Year 3/4 English - Ocean Meets Sky - Complete Lesson Collection - Literacy

(2)
A set of 15 fully prepared, highly detailed PowerPoint based lessons that include: the pages from the actual story, a range of activities per lesson, useful printable resources. The first two lessons are available to download free, to get a sense of the lesson structure (look in my shop). The book, Ocean Meets Sky, is beautiful. I have used these PP lessons with my Year 3 class and had incredible work created by them. Their level of thinking and inferencial work has blown me away, along with their writing. The work actually lasted me an entire term to get through - 6 weeks. There is more than a single lesson’s worth of work within each PowerPoint. I’ve poured my heart and soul into making these PowerPoints beautiful to see, easy to use, resource and understand. The lessons are definitely suitable for Lower KS2, and can work wonderfully with minimal adaptation for Upper KS2 also (my Y6 colleague confirmed this). **You do not need to buy the book in order to use these lessons **- the pages are within. But I would recommend buying ‘Ocean Meets Sky’ - the children LOVED reading this book (by the Fan Brothers) and seeing the illustrations in person. This beautiful and poignant story has stunning illustrations throughout (matched in the PowerPoints) and explores themes of family, memory and loss. The unit begins by introducing the authors to the children and highlighting the power of bookmaking/storytelling. Children find a mysterious box in the classroom labelled Grandpa’s Stuff. Inside they will find clues to who Grandpa was and his relationship with the main character, Finn. Finn misses his Grandfather after he has passed away and longs to travel to the fantastical worlds that his Grandpa would tell him about in his stories. Children are given a variety of meaningful writing opportunities throughout the sequence and gradually build up the skills to write an extended fantasy story of their own. Main outcomes: Setting and character descriptions, labels, diary entry, postcard, captain’s log, instructions, dialogue, extended fantasy narrative. The resources are based on the planning sequences for the same book by the Literary Curriculum. I’d recommend taking a look at their site for the planning document that aligns with this (and see the other brilliant stories they’ve created plans for).

The Magic Box by Kit Wright Poetry Pack

(1)
The imaginative poem ‘The Magic Box’ by Kit Weight provides a wonderful opportunity to appreciate, perform and compose a fantasy poem. These resources are presented beautifully to also evoke an individual written response from the learners. THE LEARNING INTENTIONS INCLUDE: to read, appreciate and perform a fantasy poem to compose verses based on the model poem to include descriptive and imaginative vocabulary within their verses Within the pack: Presentation A which provides an initial starting point to read, appreciate and perform the poem. It leads the learners through each verse and encourages them to appreciate the rich language of the poet. A web link is provided for learners to see and hear the original poet perform the poem. It also provides visuals to help the learners understand and analyse the composition. The initial written task is to compose 3 verses based on the model - learners concentrate on feelings, creatures, the natural world - What would they put in their box? Presentation B provides an opportunity to concentrate on the final 3 verses of the model poem - the ‘impossible things’ verse, what their box is made of and where they will travel in their box. I have provided opportunities for children to work with their talking partners to support their composition. The final result should be very individual poems structured on the original poem. A word mat is also provided to aid composition , a separate copy of the poem for annotation as well as a planning sheet. Within this presentation, there are slides that the teacher can use with interactive pens for shared writing to further support differentiation and an assessment checklist. I have also provided a simple comprehension task which can be used to aid comprehension of the model poem if required. There are many opportunities for incidental learning e.g. grammar and word choice particularly adjectives, powerful verbs, similes and alliteration. Additional tip : Print off nets of cubes and cuboids ( photocopiable card ) and ask children to decorate their magic boxes then assemble them. I hope your learners enjoy the poem and activities and would be delighted if you left feedback. N.B. Ideally these resources should be used over several days

Roald Dahl's Revolting Rhymes Poetry Lessons and Activities

(3)
This is my best selling resource and is a set of lessons and activities for KS2 poetry work. These would also be ideal for use around National Poetry Day or World Poetry Day. The lessons are based on 'Revolting Rhymes' by Roald Dahl. All lesson resources, differentiated activities and planning are provided as part of the pack. I have used this pack for a week of activities linked to Revolting Rhymes, as well as for a one-off lesson on Poetry Day. It could also be used for a set of guided reading activities. The teaching PowerPoint contains some background and introduction, as well as examples for modelling and discussing each independent task. The PowerPoint and the task sheets are provided in Word and pdf format. There are 5 independent activities, so the pack can be used for a whole week or just for 1 or 2 lessons. Focus can also be on one of the Rhymes or on all six, depending on your requirements. The flexibility of the lessons and the entertaining nature of the text means that I have been able to use this pack in Years 4 to 6, but it can also be easily adapted for younger children. Please note: some video links are included in the sessions, which should always be assessed for suitability prior to use! Also, as is well known, Cinderella is called a 'slut' at one point, so be prepared! Includes: *Teacher PowerPoint presentation *5 independent task sheets for support or structure *Challenge tasks are built into the PowerPoint slides *Full planning grid, linked to English curriculum Please see the Goldtopfox shop for more helpful English and general teaching resources: https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/goldtopfox
