Year 2 Parents Maths Booklet

(1)
This is a maths booklet to help parents when aiming to support their child. It is a great resource to send home with children at half terms or during the summer holidays. Through using the National Curriculum for Year 2, I produced a detailed booklet on how parents can support their child in key areas of the curriculum (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, problem solving, place value, geometry and many more). Feedback from parents has been great as they said it helped increase their own subject knowledge providing them with the skills to support their child further. The booklet also includes ways to make maths fun in real-life contexts.

Place Value PowerPoint - This interactive PowerPoint helps students understand place value and expanded notation. It is problem-based (Alex needs help with his shopping list) and interactive, they use their personal whiteboards to work out answers. This is great fun and keeps all the students actively stimulated and on task during the lesson. Place Value PowerPoint (9 slides). Created by Lindy du Plessis (store: Lindy loves to teach).

**The aim is to improve pupils scores over the year and parents/teachers are encouraged to either record time or score to see if the child can better themselves each time. I also use these in class as revision aids or for quick games like make a column or row v a partner. Recently, I’ve started quizzing my class at the end of the week on the colour that they are on in the style of a Maths Bee! A bit like a spelling bee but obviously with Maths facts! The children love it!** I also use these as homework activities every week! That means there are 23 weeks worth of Mental Maths Homework with this resources This is set 3 and covers curriculum areas in Years 3 and 4 Included in this resource is set 3 of challenges that I send home to parents to help increase my pupil’s mental maths abilities and readiness for any impending Multiplication test at the end of Year 4! The pdf is a thorough guide on how to use and gives yourself and the parents suggestions on how to use and adaptations to try at home. There are 23 challenges with 13-15 questions for each challenge. Each challenge/colour set is broken down into 3 abilities. 1 star 2 stars and 3 stars. I really hope that these help support and further your class. Any feedback would be welcome as I’m currently trying to create other sets for Reception to Year 2. Many thanks

This is a cute little game to reinforce the introductory fractions. It is very active so an excellent one for using up that excess energy. The idea behind the game is for the students to match a visual representation of a fraction with the written form.
