Need a quick and easy intervention to support student to learn tables - This booklet is designed to support a student to develop recall of tables through a focused daily minute of recall. The booklet has a pre and post assessment as well as record space to track daily progress. Some students need to use a structured approach to get number facts into their long-term memory – they do not seem to keep them there just by regular use in maths lessons. This booklet can be used to support this process. On each page is a grid with items to prompt the student to say a tables fact. Each day they should count how many oral responses they can give in a minute – and record that on the sheet. The aim is to be able to recall a few more each day. The precision teaching approach works best if the student can do an activity using the content of the page they are currently working on for a few minutes ( 5 to 10) before they do the one-minute timed activity. There are lots of interactive maths sites online e.g. Topmarks: teaching resources, interactive resources, worksheets, homework, exam and revision help – and this is a great way to give student this opportunity in a way that they can do independently. At the end of the booklet is a tables square for reference and some ideas for extension activities.

This lesson is an ideal introduction to compass directions for younger children. It is part of Our World, a Geography unit designed for students in KS1 and lower KS2 (Y1-3), but can also be taught as a stand alone lesson. The presentation introduces the four cardinal points of the compass (North, East, South and West). It then challenges students to describe the position of objects using these compass directions. The activity worksheets are differentiated two ways: Easier – Students describe the position of objects using compass directions (simple questions). Harder – Students describe the position of objects using compass directions (mixed questions). Extension – Students fill in the blanks on a compass using different vocabulary. An easy to use Excel Spreadsheet to analyse the maths test scores from the 2023 KS2 SATs though Question Level Analysis (QLA). Papers 1 (arithmetic), 2 and 3 (reasoning) are analysed. This is a powerpoint to be used as an introduction or revision of 3D Shapes such as cubes, cuboids, spheres, cylinders etc. It can be used on the interactive whiteboard to lead the lesson and is set up so children can perform practical activities in between slides. It includes learning intentions. It also introduces the idea of describing shapes with words such as faces and edges.

This can be done as whole class or within a focus group (work better as whole class). The children look at the colour of their friends' eyes and make a tally chart. This would be a good way of starting off the topic of tally vharts as the results are completed by observing, and there are not a lot of opions.
