Little Mermaid Multi sensory story

(0)
This is a multi sensory, plain English version of The Little Mermaid. The story is based on the Ladybird Favourite tales version. It has been rewritten in simple language. The equipment is detailed so you can make a shopping list! The multi sensory elements are described throughout the story, but feel free to adapt to suit your needs, or if you have a better idea! I will be using the resource with secondary age, SEN (SLD / MLD/ complex needs) students for Literacy lessons. The ‘chapters’ are quite short, so each chapter can be used as a sensory story. I plan to do one chapter a week with my class. The use of multi sensory input helps students to retain and understand the information within the story. For more information about why sensory stories are beneficial Google Joanna Grace. I hope you enjoy using this story with your students! please review, so I can improve, th

This resource was prepared for a PMLD KS3 SEN class of eight students. Curriculum Topic: Wildlife - Endangered Species For this powerpoint story you will need: A toy bumble bee (a fun project could be to create your very own bee toy/s in an Art lesson) 2-3 garden flowerpots (more or less depending on the size of the group) 2-3 toy balls (If you can only resource one then students could pass it to each other) A selection of coins (this is a nice numeracy opportunity) Activate a fan using a switch box and jelly switch. For more able students, they can press the on/off button on the fan and explore different wind strengths Bubbles! Disco lights, if you don’t have these fairy lights can work or torches with different coloured plastics/acetates stuck to the top of them to create different colours Chocolate spread on a spoon as a taster - or real ice cream if it’s a hot day can be great! (Ensure that you check for allergies/nil by mouth before offering) Vibrating massage tool or vibrating snake (this offers a wonderful sensory experience) Pharell’s ‘Happy’ song, or an agreed class favourite song and the disco lights - have a dance, have a twirl! A dark sheet to place over students, indicating night time This sensory story was delivered once a week for a half term and by the final couple of weeks students were beginning to anticipate elements of the story. A nice small group activity. Personal Development: Communication and Interaction Social, Emotional and Behavioural Cognition and Learning Physical and Sensory

Literacy for SEN, Early Years, Primary, Reception, Preschoolers

20 Resources
Ideal for teacher training or NQT a literacy bundle that has a range of worksheets for SEN, Early Years, Reception, Primary and Preschoolers. Includes differentiated worksheets for students who are at the pre-writing stage, up to writing independently. Has worksheets for alphabet A-Z for matching, phonics and practicing writing and spelling. Includes differentiated comprehension from 12 nursery rhymes to 12 differentiated photos commenting on items in photos (3 sets of each for lower, middle and higher abilities). With the speaking, listening and writing we ask carers to email or let us know a couple of things that their child did at the weekend, so that we are able to prompt children or get other children to ask appropriate questions. We also check children's listening by asking 'Who went shopping, who visited family, who was ill, who walked the dog, where did they go, what did they buy' etc. before the students write what they did with help, by copying from a white board or working independently. Also includes a colouring activity to check children's listening skills. Adult asks them to colour a particular part of the picture a certain colour and records if they did it correctly. No prep needed - just cutting and gluing with the children. You may need whiteboards and pens to help the children with spelling.

Holiday/beach/seaside sensory poem powerpoint

Holiday/beach/seaside sensory poem on 16 bright, colourful slides. I wrote this poem myself, ensuring I used rhyme, metaphors and similies, that can be pointed out to the students and used to start their independent work on poetry. I used this in both a mainstream school with year ones and in my complex needs class at a secondary special school. Within special, I used it with accompanying sensory stimuli. The poem guides you through what sensory things you need and I have incorporated all the senses. This lasted me half a term in both mainstream and special -loads you can do with it. Plus I even did a sensory assembly with it, which all the students loved.

As You Like It (2016): Simple script and castlist using Widgit symbols

This simplified version of Shakespeare's play uses symbols taken from the Widgit programme 'Communicate in Print'. It is intended that the script will help actors who have autism and severe learning difficulties to read and recall lines more easily during the rehearsal process. This resource can be used as a companion piece to the performance script, 'As You Like It (2016)' . Also included is a simple cast list of the characters in the play. Each character is represented by a large symbol. These can be used to help actors during the rehearsal process.
