Primary Writing Curriculum Coverage Checklists! (Year 1-6)

(1)
These checklists provides an academic overview of the writing curriculum content to be covered year-by-year from Year 1-6. I provided these to teachers in my own school, who marked the individual elements of the curriculum as they were covered (their aim was to ‘tick’ each element twice over an academic year). They have found it extremely useful, as it offers a useful breakdown of the curriculum statements into the individual components to be taught, which is not always as self-explanatory as one would assume! It is broken down into Composition, Vocabulary, Grammar and Punctuation, Spelling, and Handwriting sections. Please note that the spellings listed are indicative of the patterns to be learnt - it is not the exhaustive list. Furthermore, the composition section details our interpretation of what needs to be covered over a year, some schools vary from this. For this reason, the document is provided in Word, for easy editing. It is also provided as a PDF, to prevent formatting issues between computers. Hope that this proves helpful to you too!

Horrendous Homophones! (Double Lesson)

This interesting and engaging double lesson enables students to define what homophones are, use a range of homophones correctly, and to be able to explain why homophones have been used correctly or incorrectly. This knowledge is of particular importance when working through the new National Curriculum. Throughout this lesson, students learn through a range of stimulating and interactive challenges and games, which logically guide them towards the learning objectives. Examples of these are homophones pictionary, crosswords, and the creation of homophones advice posters. Over the course of this lesson, they learn by: - Defining and identifying homophones; - Finding spelling patterns in a variety of homophones; - Advising others on how to remember to spell tricky homophones correctly; - Collaborating on a range of group activities; - Self-evaluating through frequent AfL tasks, in order to observe their progress through the lesson. This resource pack includes: - A visually engaging whole-lesson PowerPoint presentation; - Word cards for the Pictionary game; - Worksheet with homophones questions; - Challenging homophones crossword; - Two varied AfL question sheets, for gauging progress through the lesson; - A detailed lesson plan, complete with what the teacher and students should aim to achieve at each stage of the lesson. Year 6 2016 SPAG Interactive Whiteboard Sample Test Paper 1 And Answers

(0)
I have created a PowerPoint presentation combining Paper 1 and the mark scheme so you can ask a question, and immediately see the answer and the explanation. This is great for a wide range of different circumstances. If the students have completed the test this lets the teacher review the paper question by question. It also a great what of revising grammar at the whole class level. Each student shows the answer on whiteboard and then immediately check their answers. A variety of questions has been included in this sample test to demonstrate the formats and curriculum content that pupils may encounter in a live test. A commentary is provided in the mark scheme that accompanies each question. This sample test mark scheme is provided to give teachers an indication of how the tests will be marked. The mark schemes for the sample tests have been subject to a shorter process than the full, rigorous development process that is used for live mark schemes. The sample test and mark schemes have been reviewed by teachers and other expert reviewers.
