A Russian billionaire, Asman Veryrich, has approached you about setting up a new football club! This exciting, engaging investigation activity allows students to control the direction of their own learning, through speaking, listening, discussing, and reasoning. I initially created these resources to provide something interesting for the students to engage with for their English Speaking and Listening discussions, but it has since been used across Maths, Art and Design, and PSHE departments, as well as by form groups and holiday activity groups, to build teamwork and collaboration skills. Students get involved in all of the fun aspects of designing and setting up a new football club, including selecting a team of players, a manager, a stadium, and a training ground. They also design the team's club badge and football kits. They also need to use their skills of literacy to read and understand key evidence, and skills of numeracy to ensure that they keep their expenses within budget! What is more, groups can compete against one another to create the most successful team in the league, as all of the resources that they choose can help them to acquire valuable league table points! Included in this resource pack are: - Full PowerPoint lesson talking students through the process; - An 8 page team booklet, used to create their designs and calculate their budgets; - A pack of 96 player cards and 12 manager cards to select from (a combination of new and classic footballers are included, to ensure that this will never be outdated); - Budget and recording sheets to track their progress; - An A3 football pitch to strategise and select their team. A simple but effective game which revises different topics in maths. Pupils play in teams. They choose an area (eg ratio) from the game board. The PowerPoint will throw up a question about the chosen area and reveal the answer when clicked. This activity can easily last a whole one hour lesson. Pupils enjoy the competitive element. It can be used as a ‘fun’ way to revise maths in preparation for the KS2 SATs. A fantastic Maths Challenge! ANSWERS provided! Learning Intention: To investigate time zones and to calculate flight times. Activity: Students have to calculate the arrival time (UK and local time at destination) for each flight. For the highest achieving students, they have to use the 2 websites provided to calculate flight times and time zone differences as well as generating their own flights! Almost every parent commented on how exciting and challenging this homework challenge was and the students loved it! PDF and Word formats available so fully editable. Please note: Depending on the time of year, the flight times on the activity sheets may vary by 1 HOUR. This is because of daylight saving times (when the UK clocks move forwards/backwards by 1 hour ). You don’t need to worry about this, just use the times written on the activity.

I created this code breaking maths lesson for an Ofsted observation. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and had so much fun (whilst still learning). The children are told that they have been selected by the local police to solve a crime. Unfortunately, all of the money from the school office has been stolen and an artist impression of the suspects has been provided. The children must crack the secret police codes to elimate the innocent suspects (cross them off) and reveal the final two suspects. Once this has been completed the last clue is placed on the IWB. Children get a reward for helping the police! I have differentiated the 4 ways questions (HIPPO - the highest, MOUSE - the second highest, HA - third highest, LA - lowest) but they could be adapted to any year group! I have also included the lesson plan and PowerPoint to help clarify the task. This is a collection of 272 tarsia puzzles that are already available on the internet from a number of sources. What have I done? I deleted any duplicates and sorted them by topic so it is easier to check what is available and choose an appropriate puzzle. Any errors encountered have been corrected but I haven’t checked all the puzzles so please check through before printing.
