STEM Lego challenge cards, some Christmas themed. SEN/KS1

(1)
Lego challenge cards, symbol supported for non / early readers. Some are Christmas themed as I’ve just made them to try and keep my children busy during this last week. Children choose or are given a card which gives an instruction - e.g. build a Christmas tree / first letter of your name and use Lego to build as instructed. It’s a fairly open ended activity but my hope is to provide more structure and purpose to play for my children with autism as some have very short attention spans and flit from activity to activity without any meaningful engagement. 24 cards in all, best printed onto card or laminated so they last.

**This resource relates to repeated addition and arrays to visualize multiplication. ** Aimed at: Year 1/2 and Lower Keystage 2, and SEND. PowerPoint Presentation (24 Slides) contains: Illustration and explanation of arrays (rows and columns) How we read the arrays What is repeated addition and how it is written (2 + 2 + 2 = 3 lots of 2 = 2 x 3), i.e 2 repeated 3 times. Whole class activity on describing an array on their whiteboards There are 3 worksheets:- Activity 1 (2 pages) - Children write repeated additions for the arrays shown. Children that require support with the activities can write one repeated addition e.g. 2 + 2 + 2 whereas a more able child will be able to write two addition models: 2 + 2 + 2 and 3 + 3. Activity 2 (2 pages) - (Extension) Same as above but the arrays are larger. There is a small section on the worksheets where it asks children to show 3 lots of 4 and then circle the groups. Activity 3 (8 pages)- Cut and Paste activity - The activity involves children cutting out buttons and arranging them in an array according to what is asked in the boxes: e.g. 5 x 2, so the student cuts out 2 lots of 5 buttons (10) and form them in an array, e.g. 5 buttons in a row and 2 columns. Extension for more able: On Activity Sheets 1 and 2 - The children can write the multiplication number sentence inside the box below their repeated additions- 2 + 2 + 2 2 X 3 = 6 3 + 3 3 X 2 = 6 Learning Objectives: To know that multiplication is related to repeated addition To learn that arrays arranged in rows and columns helps us to work out a multiplication sums. This 18 page pupil resource pack includes flashcards, display cards, word-search, overwriting worksheets and a sequencing and letter match activity board. Educators working with pupils with ASN will be familiar with these symbols as they are clear and consistent enabling easy recognition for pupils. Each worksheet is clear and uncluttered for focused learning, pupil can work independently on the matching activities or as a group. Season TEACCH Bundle - Independent Autism and SEND Activities

4 Resources
Save 25% with this Seasonal Bundle. Activities and tasks for your pupils with Autism! Includes early reading, writing and maths activities to help achieve those early targets and build on working independently! These are the individual resources included: Spring TEACCH Tasks £3 Summer TEACCH Tasks £3 Autumn TEACCH Tasks £3 Winter TEACCH Tasks £3 When using TEACCH tasks the task that is to be completed should be placed on the left hand side of the desk/workstation. The pupil then completes this task and places it on the right when completed. Having a clear visual for the pupil to identify where the finished tasks go is preferable. This clear structure allows the pupils to focus on the task they are completing and not be distracted by the work process. It is important to remember that when completing these tasks it is also about creating and building independence as well as success at the task, this is why the consistent work approach (working from left to right is so important) When using these tasks I would recommend using them for at least 4-6 weeks. For some children it may take up to a term for them to master the skill and be able to complete this independently.

Space TEACCH tasks – Independent Autism and SEN tasks - World Space Week

(0)
A brilliant Space themed TEACCH pack to add to your file folders. A brilliant addition to your teaching on World Space Week. Great for your pupils with Autism. A selection of early Maths, early Reading and early Writing tasks. The tasks included are: Colour sorting Sorting by size (big and small) (big, medium and small) Letter matching Number sequencing to 5 (2 levels included) Pencil control Matching picture to picture Matching picture to word When creating this resource, you will need to print it and cut out the instructed parts. Laminate, cut and add velcro. You can then add this into a folder or put it into a tray. TEACCH is an effective system for pupils with Autism. The structure allows pupils to work independently and master a skill. When using TEACCH the task to be completed is to be placed on the left hand-side - the pupil then completes the task and then places this into a finished box on the right-hand side. I would recommend using the same tasks for the specific session for around 4 - 6 weeks depending on level of the pupil. It is important to remember that when completing TEACCH it is about building independence and success at the task, you do not want to provide too much challenge. If the pupil can complete the task, this then means they can concentrate on working independently and can complete several tasks without the need for staff support. If the tasks are too tricky, the pupils will not be independent, may get up and wander or refuse to participate. I hope this resource is useful, if you have any questions about how to use it, please just ask!
