The Tempest SoW for KS3 (suits low ability or SEN)

(4)
This is a Power-Point with over 100 slides on Shakespeare's The Tempest. There are resources and activities included within this. It is aimed at low ability KS3 and was made for special needs groups (Autism, Dyslexia and ADHD, predominantly) but easily differentiated. Whilst a text can be read alongside, this unit focuses on very short extracts to help students understand character and theme - whilst making it as accessible as possible to those who struggle. It is recommended students watch the play initially to help develop their visual understanding and then re-watch clips to support what they read. The activities are included and worksheets can be printed as individual slides. This can easily be adapted to challenge students further - and some suggestions are made in the notes section.

Analyse, Comment, Review - Scheme of Work on Short Films (SOW) (KS3/KS4)

(1)
A full scheme of work (11 lessons) that focuses primarily on the topic Analyse, Comment and Review. This scheme of work explores the features used in a range of short films. Throughout this scheme of work, pupils will learn to comment, analyse and review elements of film, such as mise en scène, music and connotations. This scheme of work will equip the pupils with the skills needed to complete a summative assessment on a review of a short film. I have used this lesson for both my KS3 and KS4 English classes and have differentiated appropriately to suit the needs of all students. List of learning objectives explored throughout this scheme of work: 1. L.O: To understand the features of a film review. 2. L.O: To understand genre and be able to identify different varieties. 3. L.O: To analyse the different features used in a film trailer. 4. L.O: To explore how character is created without dialogue in film. 5. L.O: To develop a knowledge of foreshadowing. (*Disclaimer: Contains one expletive.) 6. L.O: To develop a knowledge of and analyse Mise en Scène. 7. L.O: To understand how tension is created through music. 8. Oliver Twist: Writing Activities

These printable English resource writing activities are brilliant as they provide cross curricular links with History (The Victorians), ICT, PSHCE, etc. They can also be used for SATs revision. I have used them in a number of ways - as a carousel (few activities at a time for the areas already covered in English), as one of activity at the end of a unit, as SATs revision. Search on TES for similar activities for Ancient Greek links - Hercules
