Adding by counting on and partitioning five (three days). Children are shown how to count on to find a total, first where they can see the first number, and then where it is hidden. Making and partitioning teen numbers (two days). Children develop fluency in reading and writing numbers to 20. They see ‘teens’ numbers on a 100 string as a group of ten in one colour and the rest in another colour. They make ‘teens’ numbers by combining ten cubes with fewer than ten cubes. Read Harvey Slumfenburger’s Christmas Present by John Burningham as a stimulus for describing Christmas presents. Use more adjectives to describe Father Christmas with help from some poems. Write Christmas Word Stairs and a letter poem to Father Christmas.
