I have been a primary school teacher for many years and have taught all age groups, specialising in English and later on, special needs. I have recently taken early retirement. I know how busy you are & how hard you work. I aim to produce the resources you would have made yourself, if you had had the time. If you have bought any of my resources, I would really appreciate it if you would review them. Many thanks!

Combine words to make sentences & sequence sentences to form narratives - The Water Park

(0)
This is for children learning to write sentences and to sequence them. It meets these criteria: Combining words to make sentences; separation of words with spaces; intro to caps, full stops, qn marks, exclam marks; caps for names & I; sequencing sentences & time words. In the first lesson the children describe the water park orally, then match the adjectives to the different slides. They then use the adjectives to write full sentences. In the next lesson they describe what they did when they went to the water park, using time words. Titles and checklists are also included. Everything is fully editable. Adverbs, Conjunctions, & Fronted Adverbials with Mr Bean - 2 complete lessons

(0)
First lesson is on adverbs with lesson starter activity to sort words into classes - verbs, adverbs or prepositions. Children are reminded what adverbs are. They look at pictures of Mr Bean then act out some things he does. Others to supply an adverb to match the mime. They then write up sentences about Mr Bean using adverbs. The second lesson has a similar starter activity, sorting conjunctions, adjectives and adverbs. They then look at the sentences they wrote previously about Mr Bean using adverbs. How could they extend these to make them more interesting? Could use conjunctions to make them longer. Children to try some out. Could also use fronted adverbials at the beginning. Examples are given. The children then choose some of their sentences to improve in this way. All resources are fully editable. For more of my resources, e.g. on Fronted Adverbials, see my shop www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Jazel Feedback would be lovely!

Orally think of sentences - Harry was feeling happy because... Next children write sentences about children on their own table in a similar way. Lesson 2: This time children are shown pictures of places - London, the moon, the zoo etc. They write similar sentences about other children but this time use more connectives, e.g. Maria went to the zoo when it was her birthday. The Presentations are either in Smart notebook or PPT. Everything is fully editable. Detailed plans are provided. Feedback would be lovely! Story Mats - Underwater Adventure - inc plans, lesson starter PPTs and presentations

These lesson plans were designed to help children to write a 5 paragraph story, one paragraph each session, using the 'story mountain'. The story mats aid children with their vocabulary, sparking off ideas and help them to write more independently. The main objectives are: I can use paragraphs to organise ideas around a theme; I can express time, place and cause using conjunctions; I can create expanded noun phrases by the addition of modifying adjectives etc. I can use adverbs. As well as the story mats and plans there is a presentation (in PPT or Smart Notebook) and 3 lesson starter PPTs. Feedback would be lovely! Lesson 1- Children describe Paddington Bear using expanded noun phrases. Lesson 2 - Children watch clip where PB meets the Brown family. They write sentences about this using connectives. Lesson 3 - Children watch the clip where PB eats in the station cafe. They write sentences using a question and an exclamation, as well as connectives. The PPT (or alternatively Notebook file) provides teaching and practice activities. There are links to the YouTube promotional clips for the first Paddington film. Learning objectives and checklists are also provided for each lesson. These enable children to proofread their own or a partner’s work. Small pictures are provided which can be printed out for children to use who need additional help. They can be stuck down one side of the page and children can write sentences next to them. Everything is fully editable so you can change it to suit the needs of your class. Objectives: Write narratives about personal experiences and those of others (real and fictional); planning or saying out loud what they are going to write about; proofreading to check for errors in spelling, grammar and punctuation; Sentence structure: I can use expanded noun phrases for description; I can use co-ordination (using or, and, but); I can use Subordination (using when, if, that, because); Punctuation: I use capital letters for names; I use capital letters, full stops, question marks and exclamation marks to demarcate sentences Please take the time to review this resource and to offer any suggestions. Combine words to make sentences and sequence sentences to form short narratives - Little fish theme

(0)
Two presentations (either PPT or Smartboard) to help children to sequence sentences to form a short narrative. The first one helps children to use adjectives. Children first choose a fish to describe to their partner. Can they guess which one it is? They then write a description of the fish, using given sentence openers. LA children have an outline help them. HA can go on to write about what the fish is doing today. The second presentation shows a fish going for a swim. The children have to guess what sea creature he sees first as the picture is partly obscured. Then what does he see next? They can also guess the time word used. They then write sentences to describe what he sees on his journey. Again, there is an outline to help LA writers and higher ability writers can continue the story. Everything is fully editable so you can change it to suit your class. For further resources see my shop - https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Jazel

The Storm - A story mat to aid creative writing

(0)
The story mat is designed to spark off ideas in children and to give them confidence to write independently. It should also help to extend their vocabularies. It is in PPT format so that it can be shown to the whole class at the beginning of the lesson as well as being printed out. This was originally designed to fit in with a topic on Greek Myths but then adapted to other storm descriptions – hence the 2 versions, which are the same but with different pictures. Fully editable. Tips: Talk about the pictures and their own storm experiences Test them on some of the vocab e.g. describe the ocean waves using a simile or find three words to describe the sound of the wind Can they find any other words to add to any of the lists? Discuss how a storm can build up from a cold dark sky to torrential rain with thunder & lightning. You can illustrate this by getting the class to make sound effects – gentle patter with fingers, building up to clapping, whistling, then howling wind, thunder clap. Challenge them to use vocabulary from each section in their descriptions. For further resources see - https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Jazel

Word mats are in PPT format so they can be displayed to the whole class or printed out for individual use. The first is for using expanded noun phrases and the second for powerful verbs and adverbs. There is another PPT included with a lesson about improving a disjointed character description using connectives and modifiers. There is also a plan and some printouts linked to this. Aim: to improve vocabulary and to help children to write more independently. Everything is fully editable. Feedback and suggestions welcomed! Christmas Instructions for 3 kinds of decorations & tree, 3 lesson plans, presentation, checklist

(0)
Children write instructions to make Christmas decorations and give them to other children to make. Original lessons for 6-8 year olds. Lesson 1: Play ‘Simon says’ with your class to introduce instructions, particularly imperative verbs. Then show the presentation (either ppt or Smart notebook). This demonstrates how you would write instructions for how to decorate a Christmas tree, showing the children how instruction texts are set out. Children then write out their own instructions using a checklist. Lower ability children use a template. Lesson 2: Children make Christmas decorations for the classroom. They are split into 3 groups, each making a different kind. They then write instructions on how to make their decoration. Lesson 3: Children follow these instructions to make the decorations that they did not make before. A useful exercise to see how clear their instructions really are! All fully editable. 'Commas to Separate Items in a List' in a description of a celebration

(0)
Children watch the PPT or Smart board presentation showing pictures of a birthday party. They discuss their best party ever - where it would be, who they would invite, what they would eat and what their favourite presents would be. They do this orally, or on whiteboards, using the picture prompts, thinking carefully about where the commas should go. They then write a paragraph describing the party, using the given sentence openers. There is a check list to help them to remember to use commas correctly. Finally, they could go on to write a descriptive paragraph about another celebration using commas in a similar way, such as Christmas Day or another festival or another person's birthday. Fully editable. For further resources see - https://www.tes.com/teaching-resources/shop/Jazel
