For new iGCSE anthology, nothing existed on this poem so I created it. Copy of poem attached.

Students research the life of Shakespeare and The Globe (see question list) then write an entertaining dramatic monologue in the voice of the Globe... Instructions included... produces some lovely work.

I used this with Year 7 but could be used/adapted with year 8 or 9 too dependent on ability. Students consider what writing 'from life&' is, then do a short reading activity on the extract from &';Cider with Rosie'. Then they use this an inspiration for their own creative writing - a short talking activity included to prompt discussion and ideas, plus some writing in class and reflection. Works well - could be a stand alone or padded out to form a couple of lessons.

Powerpoint should be explanatory but: a starter activity on semiotics to get them thinking about signification (interesting links can be drawn between boom of advertising in 1920s). Then group work focusing on the opening description of The Valley of Ashes and first intro to Myrtle and Wilson. Plenary activity on magical realism of Fitzgerald (taken from EMC guide) and then a homework essay, closely analysing this passage.(with OCR objectives but could be adapted for other boards)

I made this last year when teaching 'Frankenstein&' at AS for the OCR English literature spec (although could be adapted). I kept it to myself for a year but I think it&';s time to share the love. It's very detailed - could give to students as there are loads of activities but also would be useful if you&'re tackling the text for the first time - as a PGCE/NQT in particular, as many bits could be adapted into lesson activities. Using the excellent material provided by AQA and the TES, i put together powerpoints/ activities for the poems in the 'Relationships&' anthologies. They include activities, information, audio, video links. You can pick them up and go. The only one missing is &';To His Coy Mistress' as we approached that in a different way and also, i think some of the audio might be mixed up (don&'t know how or why?!) so do check before you go into lessons.

A detailed revision powerpoint, outlining the AQA modern texts exam (although this could be removed/ changed to fit your board) and lots of slides on context, complete with questions encouraging students to make links to the novel. Final slide suggests they get into groups and come up with essay plans to past exam questions.

A range of worksheets/activities for some of the texts in the EdExcel English iGCSE anthology for the exam. Texts include Chinese Cinderalla, Climate Change, Explorers or Boys Messing About, and A Passage to Africa. There are also two film articles to discuss compare for unseen non fiction. Fairly straightforward but hopefully useful stuff.

Taught as part of lit heritage controlled assessment for AQA as comparison with Macbeth (full details in powerpoint- just remove if not relevant!). Students had read the text independently. We began by discussing whether good and evil can be linear then read the article about the Zimbardo experiment to challenge further. Powerpoint provides intro to novel then the critics activity gets them to start thinking about interpretations. Really stretching but fruitful activity. Obviously this is very focused on my CA task but would work generally if teaching LOF as exam text.

A selection of war poetry from Carol Ann Duffy to Wilfred Owen (and accompanying cover sheet). You can shuffle order around, but I have printed into an A5 booklet for students. I used this with Y9 but could be used for GCSE depending on board.

I love, love Ted Hughes and finally, I got to teach 'Birthday Letters' as a coursework text this year. . . very little in the way of teaching resources exists so I've created some. Here's an introductory powerpoint on Hughes and a very comprehensive guide to 'Birthday Letters' - absolutely indebted to Erica Wagner's brilliant book on BL, 'Ariel's Gift...' as well as other miscellaneous activities. I've got to say, I've never taught something that the students have truly LOVED so much. Give it a go...

Scenes from Macbeth on a printable handout annotated with questions to make guided reading/ note taking a little easier, particularly at early stages of play. Focus mostly on presentation of character.

A fun and engaging lesson to hone descriptive writing skills - I used for year 7 revision but could be adapted to suit other year groups. Works really well and has produced some fab writing.

A lesson plan and resources for a persuasive writing revision lesson - year 10 or 11. Includes fun starter activity and could be developed as to include writing a longer piece. Lots of fun and can be adapted to suit different abilities. The support sheet includes writing prompts. Taught this several times, also with a year 9 high ability. works a treat.

A lesson plan and a few resources for a pre-exam revision lesson which also teaches essay skills. Helps students think about what's worth including in an essay and build analysis skills. You can cut up the essay in an envelope sheet so it's more kinaesthetic but you could just use as is.

A selection of a few bits: - Lesson plan and resource comparing Crooks and Curley's wife as one of the weak ones - Scaffolded chart to compare George and Lennie - Essay title and guidance for George and Lennie in chapters 1 and 2 - Character chart on all characters in novel, completed by me, exploring their significance to plot and to themes. You could give this to students or delete and get them to fill in it- you'll have the answers ready-done!

Focusing on chapters 7 and 8, powerpoint talks through lesson. Focus in gap between Jem and Scout's understanding, but has a focus on narrative perspective/theory in order to challenge the more able.

I made my own poetry anthology for Year 8 compiling a selection of poetry focused on setting. Begins with some Romantic stuff then moves on to all sorts - Hughes, Atwood, Nicholls etc etc. Print and give to students - good basis for SOW.

Hopefully self explanatory: Powerpoint contains overview of William Blake, including quotations for discussion and a focus on his illustrations. Two creative tasks linked to 'Auguries of Innocence' - illustrating a stanza in style of Blake, then writing their own in order to create a modern-day 'Auguries of Innocence'. Second task is on London - comprehension questions to guide reading, then a scaffolded version of the poem for students to adapt to create their own London 2012 poem (or any place they live I suppose!).
