I am passionate about learning that is tailored to children's interests and gives lots of opportunity for children to be creative and critical thinkers. I love activities that involve problem-solving and teamwork. I think it's important that learning materials cater to a variety of learning styles and get kids moving, using their hands to make things, and appeal to them visually. I also try to make my teaching have real-world applications whenever possible.

These fun crafts combine social emotional learning with a St. Patrick’s Day theme and will look great as a display. There are three crafts to choose from which focus on kindness, friendship, and gratitude and each craft comes with a display phrase.
About the crafts:
Kindness - Children write kindness ideas on each stripe of a rainbow and attach it to a pot of gold. Display phrases: “Brighten someone’s day with kindness” and “A kind act is worth more than gold”.
Friendship - Children write ways they can be a good friend on the pot. They then choose qualities that make a good friend to go on the coins which they attach to the pot. Display phrase: “A good friend is like treasure”. There is also an Irish proverb about friendship to go with this craft.
Gratitude - Children write about the ways they are lucky on the pot, then illustrate some of those ideas on the clovers, and attach the clovers to the pot. Display phrases: “We are a lucky bunch!” and “We are so very lucky!”.

Pieter Bruegel the Elder’s painting of “Children’s Games” is one of the best primary sources I’ve come across that give us a little glimpse into the games children played in the past.
The painting “Children’s Games” depicted life in the Netherlands in the 1560s. There are over 250 children playing 83 different games.
With this activity, in pairs or small groups, children look at a corner of the painting and find the games on a list. They then identify if the game is still played nowadays, and they make guesses about how to play an unfamiliar game in the painting.
It’s a fabulous way to bring history alive, with such a relatable topic, and it gets children using a primary source to gather and analyse information from the past.
