A differentiated set of percentage calculations - e.g. 35% of 460. Tikka Masala = Finding multiples of 10% Madras = Finding multiples of 10 and 5% Vindaloo = Finding any percentage. Teacher can differentiate or pupils can self-differentiate depending on confidence. Pack also has a worksheet of 5 word problems aimed at middle and higher pupils - finding discounts/profits etc. Answers to all questions are included for ease of marking and ‘over shoulder’ marking.

Brief worksheet aimed at expected level year 6s. Provides a useful example of multi-step problem solving with money, much like those children can expect to find in a reasoning SAT paper. Answers to the money problems are included for ease of marking and assessment.

Useful tool for reasoning practise in Year 6. Includes a hand-drawn bar-graph for interpretation (best done with a ruler). Also useful for identifying children who are not counting from the correct place and producing erroneous answers. Exercise also includes a second sheet where children need to identify different quantities on a speedometer and a scale. This will require some decimal conversion requiring division and multiplication by 1000 (grams to kilograms and vice-versa).

Worksheet designed for GPS practise in year 6. I have noticed that children often confuse themselves when asked to circle or underline clauses or just conjunctions (often underlining the whole clause when just the conjunction was asked for). This practise sheet should help as a revision exercise in the build-up to the GPS SAT paper.

Exercises involving fractions of numbers (e.g. 2/5 of 240) that can first be discussed as a class leading into paired work. The powerpoint discusses the formulas used for working out fractions of numbers and also touches on the point that, when dealing with fractions, X and OF mean the same thing. To finish with, plenary-wise, there is a task that children can complete (either in pairs or individually) geared to their level confidence at this particular point. Together with good quality questioning, this should prove to be useful resource across Key Stage 2 (particularly in Years 5/6).

A science fiction for years 5 and 6. The story is a teaching written novella (10 pages) split into 5 chapters. Each chapter has its own accompanying comprehension quiz of around 10 questions. Answers are also enclosed for ease of marking. The story is about a future NASA crew who are sent to investigate a mysterious crack on the far edge of the known universe - but things soon go wrong. Story can be read in guided groups, whole class guided reading or individually.

I sometimes find children can be slightly unclear on the actual difference between fact and opinion. This always seems to come up in the SAT reading papers so I constructed this short exercise that incorporates a passage on New York. Should serve well as a 10 minute starter that can be discussed as a class afterwards. Alternatively, it could serve as a shared class reading exercise.

An arithmetic paper designed for year 6, offering a wide range of questions from across the year 6 curriculum and highly compatible with the calculations your pupils will be confronted with in their SAT paper. A much cheaper alternative to using pre-printed specimens and a very useful tool to assess progress and identify misconceptions.

A Year 5/6 reading comprehension that can be used as an effective SAT practice. Short first person story, (true story as told by the author) about the time he accidentally adopted a cat! Story is accompanied by a 20 mark comprehension paper and answers for ease of marking. A good activity to fill a 30 minute timeslot and answer the style of questions that usually come up in May’s reading papers. Question types include: true/false, fact/opinion, chronological ordering, retrieval, synonyms.

Revision Powerpoints for quick and pacy revision sessions. Useful for picking up extra marks in the reasoning papers and quick practice sessions that children can do on whiteboards. Estimation - using rounding skills to estimate answers to calculations and explain reasoning. Rounding - a reminder on how to round whole numbers and numbers to two or three decimal places. Mean Average - Exercises to remind children the formula for working out the mean of a set of data. Translation - Where there is no grid - just the axes. Children often get confused by this. This PP will help explain how to translate using mathematics alone. Hope you find it useful.

A game on Powerpoint where children work in groups of 2-4 and are given a company, along with a balance of half a million. Serves as good practise for those 2 mark questions in the arithmetic paper, as well as a touch of reasoning. Children must play four rounds where they will be expected to work together to do the following. multiply 3 numbers by 2 numbers. multiply 4 number by 2 numbers. Divide four numbers by 12. Divde four numbers by 36. They may also have to work out differences and subtract from their current balance (depending on their accuracy in the rounds!) The most accurate group, with the highest balance at the end, wins! Enjoy

Contains some original wording from the Shakespeare script. Some of the names and places are local to me and can be easily adapted to suit other geographical regions. I had my year 6s perform this as a film and it worked very well. Both children and parents greatly enjoyed the experience.

Range of word problems that incorporate 2-step and multi-step challenges. There are 15 word problems in total (duplicated on the page 2-4 times so that they can easily be cut up and given out). A good resource for setting homework on a ‘problem a day’ basis or acting as an extension task if you want to laminate them and put them in a pot (this is what I do).
