About Amnuay Silpa School

Amnuay Silpa is the leading bilingual school in Thailand. Dedicated to preserving the Thai Language and Culture in our students we have successfully implemented a unique Synchronised Dual Teaching Model, incorporating the English/Welsh Curriculum and Thai Curriculum (taught by Thai teaching staff). Providing high quality education to just over 1000 pupils aged 3-18, Amnuay Silpa is an exciting and dynamic place to teach with a very clear vision for the future. In 2013 ANS was accredited by Exeter University as the First Thinking School in Asia and this year we have become the only school outside of the UK to become an Advanced Thinking School. As the hub of excellence in the thinking approach, we are able to provide excellent professional development opportunities for those successfully appointed.

The school was established in 1926 and is the top bilingual school in Thailand.  It is operated by a non-profit making foundation.  It was the first bilingual school in Thailand to be accredited as a CIE Examination Centre.  Amnuay Silpa School is dedicated to preserving the Thai Language and Culture in our students, while at the same time providing a world class international education

The Foundation Phase School provides high quality education for pupils from Nursery to Year 2.  Using the Welsh (UK) Foundation Curriculum, emphasis is placed on skill development through structured play and practical experiences.  In the Primary School the English National Curriculum is firmly embedded.  The Foundation Phase and Primary Schools are both four form entry with an expansion plan to increase this to five. The maximum class size is 24.  Each class has two teachers, (one UK Curriculum, one Thai teacher) and for the vast majority of lessons, the class is divided into two groups.

The Secondary School is three form entry., expanding to four form entry, with a maximum class sizes of 24 students.  The students are extremely polite and well mannered.  In Key Stage 3 we follow the UK National Curriculum, supplemented by the CIE Progression and Checkpoint Tests in English, Mathematics and Science.  Over the past four years the school has been developing an International Examination programme that supplements the Thai National Curriculum O-Net and GATT university entrance examinations.  The Key Stage 3, 4 and 5 International and Thai National Curriculum Programmes run concurrently side by side.
Initially we introduced the Cambridge Checkpoint and IGCSE Programmes, The first students to take the full IGCSE Programme sat their examinations in May/June 2011.  The subjects students sat included English Language and Literature, Thai Language, German, Mathematics, Combined Science, Geography, ICT, Thai Language and Design Technology and PE.  The programme continues to expand each year and the results have been above the world average, well above in some subject areas.  For the last three years the school has been awarded as the highest score in Thailand or in the world in one or more subjects.  Above 50% of all our students go on to study at the top three universities in Thailand.

In May 2015 we will launch our new KS5 Pathways Curriculum which offers pupils with the option of continuing with a bilingual education programme that enables them to achieve up to three international qualifications or to study an international programme consisting of a wider range of A-level subjects, including the new Cambridge Global Perspectives subject.  This will enable pupils to apply to study overseas in the UK and US.

The school is well equipped and resourced with specialist science laboratories and ICT rooms, specialist subject rooms, a drama theatre, well-resourced library and D &T Unit, plus swimming pools.  All classrooms are equipped with a computer, digital projector and interactive whiteboard.  Teachers also have their own computer workstation in either the classroom or the staffroom.
In February 2013 the school was accredited by Exeter University as the First ‘Thinking School’ in Asia.  At the centre of our curriculum is the development of Thinking Skills which we believe are essential for 21st Century Learners.  As the world is constantly changing in terms of communication, technology and global opportunities, we believe that our responsibility is to provide pupils with a wide range of transferable skills where there emphasis is Lifelong Learning and not only academic achievement.

The school is committed to providing an excellent programme for Professional Development.  Teachers receive continuous training in the development of thinking skills and the effective use of thinking tools in the classroom.

ANS provides a unique opportunity to work within a school that offers the highest standard of academic excellence immersed within the culture of Thailand.
