About Albany Academy

Albany Academy is a secondary academy located in the market town of Chorley, Lancashire. First opened in 1959, the school has previously been known as Albany Science School, adopting its current name in 2012 following its conversion to academy status. The school is co-educational, with around 698 pupils on roll aged 11-16, making it smaller than the average secondary school. Co-educational, Albany Academy covers an economically diverse catchment area, a fact reflected in the school’s student intake. The school is a leading part of the Albany Learning Trust, formed in 2012.

Values and Vision

Albany Academy works closely with supporting partners in the Albany Learning Trust to ensure a high quality of teaching for its pupils. This is delivered via a diverse curriculum, encompassing high-quality core subjects. The school works hard to deliver a large number of academic and vocational options for pupils in Key Stage 4, as well as proper support and guidance in terms of their options upon leaving the school, be it for further education or employment.

Ofsted

“Within lessons, students at all levels work with enthusiasm and are obviously keen to learn. The positive relationships between staff and students leads to high levels of commitment and a desire to do well. A feature of many lessons is the way in which students work and learn from each other, such as adopting leadership roles in physical education. In these lessons, students have extremely mature attitudes and value the opinion of other students.”
