About Leicester High School for Girls

Leicester High School is a well established day school for girls  located on a beautiful site, near to Leicester racecourse. The School has been based on this site for over 100 years, close to the shops and restaurants of leafy Stoneygate. Our location is well connected with excellent road links and just two miles from Leicester train station.

Founded in 1906 as Portland House School, we now comprises a Junior Department of approximately 100 girls (3-9 years) and a Senior School of approximately 250 girls (10-18) sited on the same campus.

Our small size means everyone is someone at LHS and we pride ourselves on our family feel. We specialise in bringing out the very best in girls aged 3 to 18 and our School philosophy of Education, Confidence and Opportunity is key to all we do, from our Early Years to our outstanding Sixth Form.

All LHS staff contribute towards the goal of providing a supportive, challenging and fun environment which enables our girls to achieve their potential.

The Headmaster is responsible for both the Junior Department and Senior School.  The staff are well-qualified specialists and the School is renowned for both its academic excellence and extra-curricular programme.

What people say about us

The small class sizes mean the teachers really get to know you – what you are good at and where you need help. Attending this small and friendly School has made me feel confident and be the best I can.

- Year 9 pupil

It's more like a family than a School, which I think is very unusual. You can form bonds with so many people and reach your potential because of how inclusive and warm the School is.
