About St Andrews International High School

St Andrew’s International High School is a mixed, non-selective, independent secondary school with sixth form and boarding in Malawi, serving students from the age of 11-18. The secondary school, situated in Blantyre has over 500 students on record, from over 30 different nationalities. 

St Andrew’s International High School welcomed its first pupils in 1938. The secondary school follows the British curriculum, adapted to a Malawian context. In Year 9, students work towards their IGCSE exams or BTEC level 2 qualifications, followed by A levels or BTEC level 3. The school holds title as the first BTEC School in Africa. Facilities include a recording studio, radio station, library, swimming pool, sports courts and dedicated teaching blocks.

St Andrew’s International High School’s vision is to be “a leader of education in Africa.” The secondary school is proud of its international community, allowing for students to benefit from being complete global citizens by working together and gaining new cultural experiences throughout their education. Teachers are dedicated to providing pupils with an outstanding education where they can reach their full potential and succeed across the curriculum. Pupils are encouraged to pursue their interests and nurture their skills and talents, and are invited to get involved in a wide range of extra-curricular activities. These include sports clubs, community projects, sports trips and the Duke of Edinburgh Award. Parents are encouraged to play an active role in their children’s education so that pupils benefit from a strong support network both in class and during their home life.
