The Role:

As an Achievement Team Leader you will be responsible for the strategic direction of a whole year group. Through monitoring the progress and attainment of your students and by making sure we do whatever it takes you will ensure that they achieve the best possible outcomes.

Working with other professionals across the school you will track attendance, punctuality, engagement and progress - ensuring that effective and quality support and intervention is put in place as needed in a timely and proactive way.

You will enjoy leading a team of tutors and colleagues in the Year Care Team - able to be an excellent but supportive role model and because you have the highest expectations of students and maintain high standards as the norm, you will want to work collaboratively with other leaders to look at the curriculum and co-curricular experiences for your year group and be a part of developing them both so that students thrive in a supportive, nurturing and stimulating learning environment. You will know the importance of having an even closer eye on those students that need us even more. 

Roles like the Achievement Team Leader are always a critical part of a young person’s school life but now more than ever it is imperative that our teams work together in upholding standards and high expectations which will assist rapid development in attitudes to learning and achievement.

Our new leadership colleague will have a clear understanding of how we can best do this and also how to engage students to achieve their very best. Your previous experience as a leader is less important to us than your clear vision on what can be achieved for our students and your ability to motivate and inspire those around you. You will be joining a team of strong and experienced school leaders who will do whatever it takes to help you to succeed in your new and exciting role. 

As well as having a passion for young people and their futures you will: 

  • be a dynamic professional with high expectations and a desire for ensuring high standards
  • be an excellent classroom practitioner have a track record of delivering clear impact on standards, attainment and progress
  • bring an unwavering commitment to doing whatever it takes
  • have the ability to engage, inspire and build excellent relationships with both students and staff know how to balance holding colleagues to account with supporting them and helping them to be brilliant
  • have excellent communication skills and the ability to have challenging conversations which bring about positive outcomes


We are particularly keen to meet candidates able to teach Maths, Science or Computer Science but still encourage applications from suitably qualified and ambitious colleagues with other specialisms. This is an exciting and challenging role for an ambitious leader keen to develop their skills and contribute to whole school improvement and prepare themselves for their leadership career ahead.

Welling School is located in the Borough of Bexley, just 25 minutes outside of Central London with excellent transport links.  Our co-educational 11-18 students can study a broad range of subjects through our innovative curriculum.  We are an oversubscribed Academy with a Visual Arts Specialism that has gained a national reputation for being at the cutting edge of contemporary practice in art.   In February 2015 Ofsted judged the school to be good in every category, including the 6th form, where many of our students choose to stay to continue their studies.  We are part of the TKAT family, one of the largest multi-academy Trust's in the South East of England, who's ultimate aim is to ensure that educational standards are driven up through the provision of outstanding teaching, leadership and learning for all. The Trust CPD programmes provide additional training opportunities to work alongside the school's excellent in-house training programmes.
