Job overview

Ref: CS00000014

Located in south east London, Bexley is within easy reach of central London, rural Kent and the continent. It is a diverse borough incorporating the best features of both town and country.

Children’s Services,Early Intervention Team
36 hours per week

As part of our drive to improve services for vulnerable children and young people within the borough, Bexley has established multidisciplinary Early Intervention Teams (EITS), which work to schools located in specific geographical areas. The teams contain professionals from a variety of disciplines in education and social care. Staff work closely with schools, but also undertake relevant work outside of school settings.

The focus of the teams is on early intervention, seeking to provide support to children, young people and their families, who require additional help to achieve successful educational and social outcomes, but whose needs are not severe enough for them to meet the criteria for higher threshold services. Providing support at an early stage will enable needs to be addressed and ensure that the numbers needing higher level services will reduce over time.

You will work in collaboration with other team members and school to develop strategies to improve learning and inclusion. You will advise on appropriate resources to assist schools and also facilitate the sharing of information between schools and partner agencies about effective interventions.

You will need to be a qualified teacher with a significant amount of teaching experience, in a role that has required comprehensive understanding of Additional Educational Needs and Special Educational Needs.

The main purpose of the job is to:-

  • provide support and guidance (Within the areas of SEN/AEN), that assists schools in meeting the needs of vulnerable children and young people and prevent the need for more intensive support. The support may to be whole school, groups or individual children of compulsory school age
  • act in an advisory capacity to the EIT members and management
  • lliase closely with other team members to coherently plan interventions and prevent the need for higher threshold services arising in terms of learning and inclusion
  • other responsibilities within the SEN/AEN remit that support schools and the authority.

If you have the relevant skills and experience to join our service and help to develop its future, please submit an application. For an informal discussion about the post, please contact either Brenda Tubbs, Principal Educational Psychologist, on tel: 0203 045 4214 (email: brenda.tubbs@bexley.gov.uk), or Rosanne Esposito, Manager of Specialist Teaching Services, on tel: 0203 045 4252 (email: rosanne.esposito@bexley.gov.uk)
