Job overview

Pocklington is a thriving and successful co-educational independent school 12 miles east of York, providing day and boarding education.

We are looking to appoint a part time Art Technician to work on a job share basis with our current postholder to provide support to teachers and pupils in all areas of Art. The Art Technician’s role is a varied one where you will oversee the day-to-day continuity and smooth running of the Art department. Your role will include: assisting teaching staff to prepare for lessons, offering technical help to our pupils, organising Art work and replenishing materials. The job involves working closely with our Head of Art, four Teachers, a Technician and pupils in our fantastic Art and Design building.

Ideally you will have previous experience in a similar role or environment with a good standard of education along with lots of enthusiasm and passion for Art. Whilst knowledge and understanding of art skills and techniques is desirable, this isn’t essential as full training can be provided. You will need to be an effective team worker with great organisational and communication skills, who can follow instructions and use your initiative to carry out the role effectively.

Hours of work: 10 – 15 hours per week over 2 or 3 days, during term time only

Pocklington School is a wonderful place to work. We are a supportive, kind and caring team who enjoy what we do and love making a positive difference every day. We seek to support all those around us and we care for our employees, providing good food, refreshments, social events and initiatives to support your wellbeing.

For an informal chat about the role please contact Mr Dan Cimmermann, Head of Art on 01759 321200 / mainoffice@pocklingtonschool.com

We offer incredible experiences inside and outside the classroom and believe in challenging and encouraging our students to seize opportunities that we go the extra mile to provide. These activities and our personalised approach to teaching and learning help to form the bedrock of our students’ individual characters. We are a day and boarding Christian foundation that is academic and inclusive and a family school whose togetherness, care for each other and pride in our community is evident in our outstanding pastoral provision. At the very heart of our ethos lie our “Values and Virtues”; they drive all that we do at Pocklington and mean our students leave with a strong sense of personal and social responsibility along with the ability to shape their own future.

Pocklington School lies 12 miles east of York in a safe, rural setting on the edge of a small, friendly market town, on a 50-acre campus with good public transport links and its own minibus pick-up service. The School was founded in 1514 and has retained its strong tradition of encouraging pupils to have the courage to take chances with learning and always remain true to themselves.

Numerous co-curricular activities for day and boarding pupils take place every day until 5pm, and each pupil is encouraged to pursue their own interests to help develop the depth of character and self-awareness to tackle life’s challenges on their own terms. Extensive facilities include a 300-seat theatre, an indoor sports hall, conditioning room and swimming pool, plus 21 acres of grass sports pitches and two full-sized synthetic pitches. Full, flexible and casual boarding options are available, in boarding houses which create a home from home for both domestic and international students.

Right through from Prep School, with its emphasis on nurturing children’s natural curiosity, imagination and enthusiasm for learning, to the Sixth Form where independent thought is prized, our pupils are encouraged to be resilient, resourceful learners. Lessons are planned around giving pupils the opportunity to develop their independence and character, rather than simply acquiring and retaining facts. We employ the best educational tools and appropriate new technology facilities to ensure youngsters are enthused and inspired by the world of knowledge available to them. Flexible learning platforms and an individual approach allows each pupil to progress at his or her pace, boosting their confidence and self-esteem so they often exceed their expectations.

Our new £3m Art and Design Technology Centre, which opened in Autumn 2017, has every facility to encourage the pursuit of traditional arts and crafts, as well as provide cutting-edge equipment for digital and computer design, and manufacturing technology. The innovation and cross fertilisation of ideas the Centre promotes are increasingly valued in society today.

Sixth Form facilities include spacious communal areas, a study centre, and comprehensive library. Students are encouraged to work both collaboratively and independently as they begin to make the transition to university study and/or workplace success.

Recent former pupils who retain links with the school include Davis Cup winner Kyle Edmund, England rugby star Rob Webber and world-renowned concert pianist Alexandra Dariescu.

We aim to:

· Embed our Pocklington Values and Virtues into all that we do

· Broaden our pupils’ horizons and elevate their ambitions

· Work and engage with families in educating their children

· Embrace innovation and be conscious of tradition

· Ensure our Foundation’s future as a provider of excellent education
