CEM Centre

The Centre for Evaluation and Monitoring (CEM) is looking to appoint a full-time Assessment Developer. This is an innovative post within a successful, well-established University research centre with a strong customer focus. This dynamic centre has, since its beginning over 30 years ago, established a reputation for innovation and quality in assessment, based on world-leading research, market-leading technical advances and high levels of service.

We require an Assessment Developer who will contribute to the on-going development of our assessments of school-aged children and young people (item writing and content review) and reporting (statistical analysis, data interpretation, curriculum linkage and next steps advice) and lead trialling sessions within school. The successful applicant will be a highly motivated, talented and experienced individual. This is an exciting opportunity to make an important contribution to CEM’s suite of assessments for schools.

CEM provides pupil monitoring systems to schools and colleges with the aim of improving education. We are the largest educational research unit in a UK university, employing around 100 people, and growing. Established in 1983, the Centre works with schools, colleges, education authorities and government agencies to provide high quality information through scientifically grounded research. CEM is the home of a widely used family of monitoring systems (visit www.cem.org) which are used by several thousand schools across the UK and around 70 other countries. We assess over a million pupils every year and feed back information to schools about the attainment, attitudes and progress of their pupils. We have developed our own assessments and software to deliver them. The Centre is one of the few establishments in the world to successfully use computer-adaptive assessments in schools and these are increasingly becoming the favoured method of assessment.
