Job overview

Are you an ambitious and high flying practitioner in Maths? Do you have the ability to develop others towards becoming outstanding Maths teachers? Do you relish a challenge? Are you looking for your next step in leadership and an opportunity to make your mark?

Our Maths department has a stable, hardworking team of dedicated maths teachers, but with a few recent internal promotions, we are looking for an Assistant Curriculum Lead to work alongside our Curriculum Lead in raising levels of student achievement in Maths. Our Maths GCSE results have dramatically improved over the past six years, but remained broadly settled last year with progress taking a minor dip.

We are seeking an outstanding teacher with a track record of enabling high achievement, and the ability to work successfully as part of a large team. You will be passionate about the teaching of Maths and driven to share high quality and innovative practice in the classroom.  Our mission is ‘transforming learning, transforming lives’ and you will have a genuine commitment to making the contribution to the Academy and more importantly a difference to the lives of young people; including their self-esteem, aspirations and social wellbeing.

As part of this role you will take a lead on the development of our KS3 Maths programme of study, demonstrating a strong understanding of curriculum change.  In addition, working with other Key Stage 3 leads you will have a key role in developing new approaches to assessment.

The RSA Academy is an 11 – 18 school that opened in September 2008 and moved into a £32million new build in September 2010.  Sponsored by the Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce, we benefit from access to 28,000 fellows across the world.  The Academy is part of the RSA family of schools.

You will have –

  • QTS
  • High aspirations for achievement and personal development of students
  • Excellent knowledge of KS3 and KS4 Maths GCSE syllabus
  • Knowledge of a wide range of pedagogic approaches to ensure all students are encouraged and make progress
  • Strategies for promoting good relationships and effective behaviour
  • Experience of designing and developing resources to support learning
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience
  • Excellent communication skills, oral and written, plus confidence to present to groups of staff and students
  • Capacity to form positive learning centred relationships with our professionals at different stages in their careers

We can offer –

  • Additional non-contact time to carry out the role
  • Professional hard working team
  • Opportunities for Post 16 teaching
  • State of the art facilities
  • CPD to support you to the next level of your career
  • Opportunity to become an RSA Fellow and work across the family of schools
  • Work –life balance initiatives at discounted rates for staff including laundry services, car valeting & mechanics, slim well programme, gym membership
  • ‘Paycare’ an employee paid healthcare scheme
  • Childcare voucher scheme
  • 5 term year
  • 10 planning and training days per year
  • Own salary and payscale
  • Employee Assistance Programme

If you want to make a difference to young people’s lives, please download our application pack from our website at www.rsaacademy.org.  Alternatively you can telephone 0121 5561351.

Closing date: Friday 13th March 2015
Interviews will be held w/c 23rd March 2015

The RSA Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our students and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All our posts are subject to an enhanced DBS disclosure, 2 work references and other employment checks.

Gospel Oak School, formerly the RSA Academy serves the borough of Sandwell, but due to its geographical position students join us from Wolverhampton and Walsall.  In 2017 the school joined the Central RSA Academies Trust and has been working closely and collaboratively across the trust to offer greater opportunities for all.  Over the last 5 years the trust has grown in size and strength, from September 2021 the trust is now an academy approved sponsor in its own right and the RSA will no longer sponsor the trust, although we will continue to work closely with the RSA.  This changing relationship has provided the trust and the school to rebrand ourselves, the trust will now be known as Central Region Schools Trust and the school; Gospel Oak School.

The rebrand for the school has allowed us to reflect on the true heritage of the local community.  The school is based in Gospel Oak and as a community we are very proud of our Black Country heritage, it is for this reason our new branding reflects the colours of the Black Country along with symbolic representation of the area, with the narrowboat which reflects the locality of the Gospel Oak canal basin, the oak tree for when the parish was so large the parishioners prayed under it once a month and the Black Country links to industry within the area.
