Job overview

We are seeking a suitably qualified teacher of English from September 2015. We are a popular Academy, consistently oversubscribed, with standards at KS4 rising rapidly. This year we achieved a pass rate of 71.4% (including English and Maths) at Key Stage 4. A*-C in English in 2014 was 84%, with progress showing students continue to make progress above the National Average for both expected and more than expected measures: 86% 3+LP and 44% 4+LP in 2014.

Hummersknott was inspected by Ofsted in October 2013. The Academy was judged to be a ‘good’ school. We believe we have the staff and students to rapidly improve to outstanding as Ofsted stated in their report.

“Teaching is mostly good with many instances where it is outstanding. It continues to improve strongly. There are exemplary relationships between students and staff and this helps to build a strong learning environment throughout the academy.”

“Students’ behaviour and attitudes to learning are exemplary. They feel safe and are very proud of their academy. They speak highly of the support they receive from the staff and state that this is helping them to do well in their studies. They are courteous and respectful of each other and staff and they respond well to the rich and diverse curriculum.”

Applications are welcomed from teachers wishing to extend and develop their experience. The successful candidate will be expected to teach across the age and ability range.

The Governing Body is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all children and expects all staff to share this commitment. Any offer of employment will be subject to receipt of a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service check.

The Academy is committed to all aspects of personal development, is inclusive and seeks to ensure every individual achieves.

Values and vision

The Hummersknott Academy Trust is committed to providing outstanding, inclusive learning for all students regardless of their ability. Success is built upon partnership between parents, pupils, staff, local community groups and global link schools. The aim is to develop every aspect of the people within the school community so that they can live successful and fulfilled lives.

Hummersknott Academy has been a specialist language college since 2005. The curriculum is flexible and aimed at making sure all pupils have choice and can succeed. The secondary school offers five languages because it believes that, in an increasingly global economy, language skills will be essential in later life.

Ofsted report

“The achievement of students is good and continues to improve rapidly because of the successful and relentless drive by governors and senior leaders to increase the proportion of good and outstanding teaching. The thirst for excellence that leaders show in all aspects of the academy’s work is outstanding.”
