The British School in Tokyo is a not-for-profit, non-selective independent 3-18 British international school founded in 1989. The school was judged ‘Excellent’ in all areas from Nursery to Sixth Form in our inspection (Nov 2011). The Independent Schools Inspectorate said that our teachers deliver stimulating and challenging lessons providing the very best in British Education in Japan.
We broadly follow the Early Years Foundation Stage and National Curriculum for England and prepare students for IGCSE and A-level examinations. Assistant Head (Sixth Form and Student Development)

(Student Leadership and Development Co-ordinator with specific responsibility for the Sixth Form)

This is an exciting opportunity to take up a new, key leadership role in a forward-thinking, dynamic school that provides high-quality learning and teaching to children of British and other international families in the heart of Tokyo.

Further details are available in the job specification with to this advertisement, but as well as being part of the Secondary School Leadership Team, the two main foci of the post are to oversee the various aspects of the Sixth Form Experience with relevant staff, and to lead and develop existing systems to ensure all students can excel throughout the Secondary School.

We require:

  • A well-qualified, outstanding teacher with significant middle-management experience in either a curriculum or a pastoral role (eg Head of Department, Head of Year/Phase)
  • Strength in the use and analysis of a range of data (not only numerical)
  • A commitment to the development and maintenance of excellence in all areas
  • Energy, commitment, flexibility and a sense of humour
