Esland Daven School offers high-quality education in a safe, respectful and inclusive environment that builds a foundation for lifelong learning.  We provide a welcoming, happy, safe, and supportive learning environment where all achievements are celebrated.

Our school

At Esland Daven School we re-engage young people in education through 1-1 learning and small group activities. Our pupils have been placed at the school via local authority commissioning teams as they are currently unable to access formal learning environments within a day-school setting.

We offer bespoke educational packages along with a library, an ICT suite, a food technology classroom, a physical learning centre, and a vocational classroom. On-site therapeutic care is offered to pupils through our on-site clinical team

The team

The team at Esland Daven School have been handpicked to deliver the very best education and therapeutic care.

We have a highly experienced headteacher with a background in mainstream, independent, and special needs education. Our outreach tutors have a range of teaching specialisms including SEND, core curriculum subjects, well-being, trauma, outdoor education, vocational learning, behaviour support, and creative arts and play therapy. They are all driven to achieve outstanding outcomes for all young people, regardless of their journey so far.

Our vision

Our vision is to develop resilient, responsible, and confident individuals who aspire to achieve their full potential. We will ensure that all of our learners are ready for the next step in their educational journey so that they are able to live fulfilled adult lives.

School developments

Esland Daven School is due to open in Autumn 2022. Our objective is to provide an inspirational learning environment where pupils are encouraged to actively participate in all learning opportunities. We make learning enjoyable. We celebrate achievement, recognise the importance of education and nurture the qualities that will enable each pupil to become confident and competent members of society.

Each of our young people has an individual, bespoke timetable to match their needs and their curriculum aims and objectives.

Outcomes for children

All pupils have an initial baseline assessment that helps us to better understand their needs and to establish a curriculum ‘starting point’. This includes an academic assessment through GL Assessments. It allows the school to triangulate previous assessments or understand the pupil in more detail where these have not previously been completed.

Pupils at Esland Daven School can access a range of qualifications including Entry Level, Functional Skills, or GCSEs dependent on their current attainment level and aspirations. Young people also have the opportunity to work towards ASDAN qualifications or Unit Awards.

School activities

Typically, each pupil receives 15 hours of direct face-to-face learning each week. This is usually focused on the core curriculum subjects of English, maths, and science, along with PSHE.

They receive an additional 8 hours of learning either through care, our vocational pathways or broader curriculum opportunities such as computing education and a themed-approach to humanities and arts, based around a key learning concept. Our learning plans also include opportunities for outdoor activities, Forest School, play-based learning, preparation for adulthood and employability, enterprise, and volunteering.
